Cullercoats has always been one of those little places on our coastline that punches well above its size. Tucked between Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, it’s been the backdrop to family days at the beach, walks around the bay and more than a few attempts at convincing ourselves it’s warm enough to sit outside. Our Cullercoats Est. 1539 Beanie is our little nod to a village that’s been doing its thing by the North Sea for nearly 500 years.

The official Cullercoats story goes back to 1539, when it was recorded as “Culvercoats” - a name thought to come from the Old English words for dove and shelter. Fishing shaped the village for centuries, from its cobles and famous Cullercoats fishwives to the harbour and piers we know today. By the 19th century, the little bay was even attracting artists to the coast, creating the Cullercoats artists’ colony.

Made from soft organic cotton with a touch of stretch, our Cullercoats beanie has a classic fisherman-style rib and foldable brim for a comfortable, easy fit. Which feels pretty fitting for a village built around fishing - although ours is more likely to see a walk around the bay than a morning out on a coble.

Each beanie is finished with embroidered “Cullercoats Est. 1539” detailing - a little nod to nearly five centuries of history on our corner of the North East coast.
